Four of the most beautiful market places in Valencia

Experiencing Spain’s culture is one of the best ways of learning Spanish and one of the best ways to experience the culture is mixing with the locals. To do so, you can visit one of these four beautiful marketplaces in Valencia with our guided visits.

 1. Mercado Central

Inaugurated in 1928, this is the most famous and most visited market in Valencia. It is located in a square in the city centre, where the open air Mercado Nuevo had been taking place for decades before the Mercado Central de Valencia opened. The market’s facade is beautiful and unique on each side and on the inside you can see several domes. This market has some of the best quality products in the city.

Its opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

2. Mercado Municipal Rojas Clemente
  1. This market is only 10 minutes away from the Mercado Central. Though it was inaugurated in the 60s, this market was nothing too special until in 2017 a group of famous urban artists covered the building in graffiti art.

It’s opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 7.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

3. Mercado de Ruzafa

The Ruzafa market was built between 1957 and 1958 and has a surface of almost 5000 square meters. It is located in in the Ruzafa quarter, one of the trendiest quarters in the city right now. Its colorful exterior is one of its most attracting features since each facade is painted in different shades of color. Its interior combines stained glass windows with an industrial look.

Its opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 7.30 a.m. to 3 p.m

4. Mercado de Colón

This modernist style building was inaugurated in 1916 and is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. It had to undergo some rehabilitation because of its deteriorating state. Today it isn’t as much of a market (though it still has a few market stalls) and is mostly filled with different bars and restaurants. Its facades are really beautiful and worth taking a look at.

Opening hours are the most extensive: Monday to Thursday from 7.30 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 7.30 a.m. to 3 a.m.
