We are aware that learning another language, in this case Spanish can be difficult and that, sometimes, lessons aren’t enough. That’s why we have a list of useful methods to help you through this beautiful Spanish learning journey.
Methods to learn Spanish
Fix goals in Spanish
Fix yourself accessible goals in your learning process. Be constant and try to write them down so you can read them every day and know what you want to achieve. You can, for instance, make a list of words that you want to learn as “tipos de flores” (types of flowers), and some flowers you might want to know how are called. Every day you can study these words until you know them. You can also fix the goal of striking up a conversation of 5 minutes, then 10, then 20… Everything you can think of!
Make flashcards
Flashcards are useful not only for common exams but also for learning Spanish, especially vocabulary. You can create your cards or even use apps such as Anki or Quizlet. This technique is very used between students, and it can let you study regularly and retain information more easily.
Writing in Spanish
This might be the worst nightmare of Spanish students in their Spanish lessons, but writing is very useful for learning a language. You don’t even have to do a regular one, you can practice with a journal and write about what has happened in your day and then try to correct it so you can give yourself feedback. This doesn’t only improve your writing skills but also helps you to become comfortable with the structure of the language.
Spanish lessons
Although we have said that we will give you some methods outside the walls of a class, always consider joining a Spanish school (like ours) to have a more personalized process of learning. This has a lot of benefits: you have a teacher who is a professional that helps you with your doubts and you can have lessons online if you aren’t able to go face-to-face.
Games
Learning Spanish doesn’t have to be boring! You can make it funny if you find the proper way. Search for interactive games online or play board games like Scrabble. It’s a good way to learn with your friends as well and have a good time with them so don’t discard this option.
Talk in Spanish
We have talked about this in other articles, but speaking is extremely important to learn Spanish. Search for someone to speak the language: it can be a teacher, a friend, or the people from the street that you meet everyday shopping or going to the gym. Force yourself to speak Spanish outside your comfort. You can also join groups online or locally where you can have the opportunity to practice in a relaxed circle.
Listen to podcasts and audiobooks
Including podcasts in Spanish in your routine can help you with your listening skills. Choose the ones that contain information you are interested in, start with easy episodes and when you are ready, try to listen to more difficult ones. Audiobooks are another excellent option, so read a book at the same time and the results will be noticed.
Be patient
The key to learning is determination. You can’t learn a language from one day to another. Take time every day, even if you only have 15 or 30 minutes. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, they are necessary to improve.
A combination of these methods will offer you a richer and more effective experience of learning Spanish.
Good luck!
